We are all more conscious of the environment these days. Who doesn’t have at least four separate bins in their home? Some of my neighbours have admitted to storing organic waste in their freezer! That being said, here is a list of facilities and events to help you recycle the more unusual household items.
I’m always on the lookout for service providers that I can refer to my clients with confidence. Do you have any other recycling / junk removal services that you recommend?
Electronic equipment
Encorp Pacific holds regular drop-off events around BC, occasionally in Vancouver. The next drop-off event in Vancouver is on Saturday 15th October, 10am – 1pm at the West End Community Centre. Check out the return-it.ca website for more information and details of acceptable end-of-life products.
Electronic Recycling Association offers pickup of old IT and electronic equipment for recycling. They also offer various services such as data wipe and data destruction, collection inventory spreadsheet (make, model, serial number) and certificate of destruction. Members qualify for discounted or complimentary pickups. Check their website for details.
Batteries
Fun fact: Many summer items such as BBQ sets, gardening tools, camping gear, golf clubs and more are made from recycled batteries. Recycle your used household batteries at any Call2Recycle location including London Drugs, Staples, Canadian Tire and more. Find a recycling location near you at call2recycle.ca/locator. Enter the Recycle & Smile contest before August 31 for the chance to win cash prizes: call2recycle.ca/summersmile.
Plastic bags, plastic overwrap, foam packaging
Multi-Material BC and London Drugs have teamed up to offer return-to-retail of plastic bags, plastic overwrap and foam packaging in City of Vancouver. Read the full details of their one-year pilot program in their recent news announcement.
